Changes currently being proposed by the Child Day Care Council, could potentially put your children at risk. The council met to ease regulations on Virginia day care providers. Some of the items that cause us worry: 1) No longer requiring the lead teachers of child-care classes have a high school diploma or GED equivelent. Instead only requiring 24 hours of training. 2) No longer requiring the center director have some college training, just requiring three years of experience instead. 3) Increasing the number of 4-year-olds in one person's care from 12 children to 15. 4) Also allowing one staff person to care for 15 children between age 3 and 6 instead of only 10 as the current regulations read.
